What I Learned at Build-a-Bear Workshop

build a bear

'>'> A couple of weeks ago I took my almost-four-year-old to the mall, and I did it all for love. One of Ryleigh’s favorite places is Build-A Bear Workshop. The customer service is fantastic, and they create a “wow” experience for her. Since she is a typical indecisive preschooler, we spent nearly 20 minutes selecting the perfect bear to begin building and customizing just for her. That’s when it hit me. Build-A-Bear is a great strategy to use to build your company’s hiring and selection process. Just like with the individualized bears that emerge from this shop, we live in a world where custom is king but the experience trumps all. As consumers, we crave the custom experience of swimming with the dolphins. We covet those 50-y [...]

'> Understanding the Difference Between Hard Skills & Soft Skills in Pre-Employment Testing '> '> I remember my first encounter with pre-employment testing. I was terrified and sweating bullets. Now, working in the field of human resources, I find that I’m not alone, as frustrated job seekers wonder and worry about the importance, the differences, and the types of testing given during a company’s hiring process. Often times hiring managers are also completely unaware of what it’s all about. Well, I’d like to help change that. '> Hard Skills and Soft Skills '> '> At first glance, your ca [...]

pipe dream

'>'> “Pipe dreams” refer to the visual hallucinations that occur after smoking a pipe full of opium. Despite the term’s origins, today, people refer to a pipe dream as an impossible goal. There are tried and true methods you can immediately implement to augment or streamline your current candidate recruitment process to continually drive new candidates – particularly qualified candidates – into your resources pool. social media klout score

'>'> Pre-Employment Assessments Offer Companies Hiring Social Media Managers an Alternative to Klout. Hiring is hard. It’s even harder when recruiting and interviewing for positions requiring skill sets and qualifications unfamiliar to the hiring manager. This is especially true with positions that elicit lots of response, such as a social media or community manager. A job posting of this kind could result in hundreds – if not thousands -- of resumes. Where does one begin vetting and filtering to select the top 7 candidates? Companies like Salesforce are using a popular social media measurement and online influence tool called Klout to qualify their candidates. The hiring giant recently posted a job for a community manager posit [...]

Simulations are widely used in education, training, and recruiting today. By immersing the user in a virtual environment that recreates activities in a life-like manner, simulations provide an immersive, interactive experience in which the user learns by doing. In addition to providing hands-on learning, simulations provide an extraordinary view of how a job candidate will perform if hired. Developed in the 1930s, simulation training is used by some 70% of businesses across the world. The 2018 Call Center Industry Report reveals critical paths for enterprises to improve quality, adapt call volume fluctuations, and control costs with call center test simulations.
